Default APR chip? Can anyone else say that the chip is invisiable to dealer computers?... more

I would like some more piece of mind about the APR chip... After speaking to a tech at APR, they told me that their chip will be seen by the dealership computer as a stock, Audi/OEM chip. (only with that EMCS installed). I was told that if i set the chip back to stock preformance there was NO way of the dealer knowing I chipped the car, unless they opened the chip up and saw the APR chip. Can anyone else out there claim the same? I will eventually order a second ECU, stock, but I want to make sure when i go in for service that if it is chipped, I will not get burned right away.

Default My understanding is that it is totally invisible to the dealer, especially if you have switched ....

to the stock program and have the option that resets the fault codes. On the other hand, I am hearing about an ECU voluntary recall that has me a bit nervous ... I'll have to make it clear to the dealer that I do not want my ECU swapped out under any circumstances. Catch-22?

Default The guys at APR are correct...

it can't be detected. You may want to consider a spare ECU since we've heard reports of ECUs being switched during service for who-knows-what reason. You certainly don't want to lose your chip during service. -Pete

PS...the MTM chip could only be detected for the same reason as the APR or if they took the car out with a VAG connected and watched the boost measurement (like they have time to do that!).

Default But if I switch my APR chip to stock, the boost way to tell does not work...

If I switch the car to stock, then if they use a VAG tool and try ot check for boost pressure, they will find nothing, correct? Also what are the compared stats of the two, APR vs. MTM? HP, torque, etc?

Default Why??? are ECU's being swapped out?? Anyone have real info?

Another good reason to keep the original for service calls I guess.

Default That is right, they shouldn't be able to see anything in "stock" mode but...

you should ask here which chip provide the best performance. I don't want to start a war or anything though. -Pete
