ARMREST, armrest -- got the armrest installed in my TTR -- VERY happy!
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/armrest_ttr_ani1.gif">
Well, ever since Brad posted the first picture of the www.tt-designparts.de TT armrest back in October -- I was anxious to have it installed. I know there's been some debate of the $$, but most everyone did agree that it looked great -- well designed and matched nicely. The whole cup holder issue will be resolved soon, TT-DesignParts said they're working on it now ... and can retro fit the existing units.
Anyway, my observations: LOVE IT! For the 2,000 miles I put on the car without the armrest ... I didn't miss it at all. But after driving home from Central Jersey this evening ... I found that my arm was resting way more comfortably. This might be "reaching", no pun intended, but I actually think I was able to slide it into 5th gear, from 6th more easily too -- it was like my arm was in the right position, I didn't need to try so hard (no flames please - I know, no one EVER slipped it into 3rd by mistake, right?). Worth the $$, looks good; feels good; the right choice.
Installation: The guys at TT-DesignParts wanted to get a feel for how easy the installation was, so they took the time to work carefully while removing the existing cup holders and popping in the armrest. It's solid and secure. There are two little tiny holes left where the cup holders were (see orange arrow in picture) -- they mentioned that the cup holders were optional in Europe, so I guess they didn't expect to need any little covers. But, they said they'll get black grommets, or something for me.
TTeaser did a nice job on his install (few posts back, 11/27), black armrest in the TT Coupe ... but thought many of you might be interested in seeing the baseball armrest installed in the TT Roadster ... oh, the color is just about exactly the same as the original interior. I believe he got his while in Germany (?). It might be safe to say that this is the first baseball armrest in the states (eeww, aahh).
TT-DesignParts emailed me this afternoon and I ran right down to get it. Stratmosphere is their local US dealer ...
Sorry for the long winded post on this topic -- just my 2 cents, still working on the simple accessories ... will get to chips, aftermarket DVs, etc. soon.

Looks good! How does the armrest leather match up with the TT leather? The black armrest leather
is darker than the TT leather and not so soft.
I would like to know how to create a slideshow like yours! Is it possible to explain it in a few easy words for a not so skilled computer user like me? lol

Re: Leather match up ...
Well, you can tell it's not from the same cow. But the steering wheel and knee thingies down under the dash are a bit different than the seats too.
All in all, it looks 100% factory.
Regarding the animated GIF, very simple. I'll send you instructions via email.

How does the armrest...
pop into place? I thought it used the same holes at the cup holders? My baseball armrest is due to arrive shortly - ordered it from Stratmosphere a while back. Thanks.

Pictures are great. Thanks. I am looking forward to getting mine from Pete any day now. With the addition of the cup holders it will be perfect!
