Default Attended the Porsche World Roadshow and had a chance to drive all porsche models

(except the Carrera GT) on the track and on the street. I liked all of them but specially enjoyed the Cayman S. It has lots of torque and the sound of the engine is music !
If I ever change my TT, it would be for one of these.
I am changing the cam gear to get better torque at lower rpms. It was built by Danny (Dahlback). I will keep post of how it works.

Default Lucky you! Where was this and how were you able to go?

Was it by invitation, or could anyone on the general public show up? I couldn't agree with you more on the Cayman. But I did just read in a German magazine last week that the Boxster S will soon be getting the Cayman S' 3.4, 295hp VarioCam Plus engine; now THAT may just bump my TT Roadster out of the garage, a thought which in some strange way makes me both very happy, and quite sad :-(

Default Yep. That Blue LeMans in your picture is the one I drove.

As a former Porsche owner, you would have appreciated the ride in the track when one of the professional drivers was in the left seat and you the passenger. It is amazing when you realize that you can probably get only 2/3's of the car capabilities, while the german drivers can get a lot more. I also enjoyed driving the 997 Carrera S.

Default In general, the limits of that chassis are pretty high..>

and remarkably balanced as you now know! I recently picked up an older Boxster so I've been enjoying some of that lately...:-)

Default This event was in Mexico, but they do it in many countries.

It is by invitation only, and you can get one through your Porsche dealer. All cars come from Germany (as well as most pro drivers). They are partly sponsored by Michelin, as they run through a set of tires per car EVERY DAY. They use 2,000 tires per event.
It is one full day, and you get to drive Slalom, Track, Road, Off-Road (with the Cayenne). So, you have a chance to compare, especially when driving the different models on the race track.
I agree with your comment about the Boxster with the new engine. It will really raise the bar for the new TT.

Default the forums say the 3.4L won't make it into the Boxster S...

because they don't want to dilute Cayman S sales -- but who knows really.

I heard the Cayman's final drive is shorter than the Boxster's too to make it feel more sporty.

The thing is, if they can get 415 HP out of 3.6 Liters in the GT3 then there is lot's more left in the 3.2 -- but they will probably lay it out over several years as model year "improvements".

If they can already extract 115 HP per Liter from the GT3 engines then there could be a 3.2 or 3.4 in the 340-350 HP range -- if they wanted to spend the time and money.

The new M Coupe may make them have to.

Default Yeah, who knows...

Auto magazines can be wrong there as well as here! But I don't really buy the Cayman/Boxster competition thing; clearly, the Cayman is closely competitive with the Carrera and Carrera S coupes, I can even see the people cross shopping a boxster with a Carrera convetible. But the Cayman and Boxster are so similar, it's like thinking that the TT Roadster and Coupe compete with each other; if you want that car, you simply decide whether you want a covertible or you don't. Yeah there are subjective differences in the driving dynamics too, but probably not enough to sway someone from a coupe to a convertible or vice versa. IF Porsche accepts that view, then it also make sense to do it, since I assume it would be cheaper to simply have 2 engines between the 4 Cayman/Boxster models. Anyway, the mag said Cayman base coupe in the Fall with 2.7 liter 250 hp motor, and Boxster S with Cayman S motor, too.

Default Porsche has never>>>

really caved in to the others power one upsmanship. Take a look at the Carrera S..as an example in previous formats. They made it "sportier" but never really bumped power. On the 997 they have....
No...i think Porsche will continue to do what Porsche does, and leave well enough alone. The marque does not usually care too much about BMW M cars or Audi S cars...no need to.
Plus...truthfully, if you drive a 295hp Caymen, you will realize more power is not what you need...it is driving lessons...that is how you become truly faster. Anyone can mash a throttle....IMO
