Default Basic carrier installation: Straight forward or any catch?

Just got my roof rack today. The instructions look easy, but before I chipped any paint, wanted to ask the experienced TTers if there is anything else I should know or be extra careful about.

Thanks

If you are adding the bike rack, you can't open the hatch all the way!!!

Yikes. The price of compactness...

Default Well you could install the rack facing backwards.

This is the price you pay for a small hatch back but you could always install it backwards. It would stick out towards the front but considering the roof line you would probably never see it.

Default I tried this! You have to move it so far forward to get it out of the way

that you certainly DO see it, even in the TT's bathtub-like surroundings.

You just have to be careful with the hatch and take the bike off first when you arrive.

Default I went with the fork mount, thinking that would be a more compact rack.

But still it's long enough to be a hazard when opening the hatch.

I suppose the only real solution is extreme caution.
