Black soot. a problem??

Black soot. a problem??

After having the car for a little over a week i've noticed a black soot pattern over the back of the vechile. this normally occurs only after some spirited driving and i'm assuming that the car is belching this stuff out of the exhaust. As some one who professes minimal knowledge over car mechanics why the car be doing this, is this a symptom of a much larger problem? i'm looking for a little help. please help the newb. thank you.

As long as you don't throw a rich code (check engine light), it's "within spec."

which is not necessarily a bad thing...

the ECU is programmed to run rich at high revs to avoid detonation. Any time I go out for a spirited drive I typically end up with more soot on the tailpipes than usual.
