Brake Install part 1 - Red caliper paint...and one rotor question inside>>>
So I have zero artistic ability, but, I've got a girlfriend who's an art education major and kind enough to spend 3 hours gettting dirty tonight
There is a small section around the edge of the rotor that has protruded out and effected the pad, there is a dip in the pad about 1mm on both sides or less. I'm going to sand the disks with 120 grit sand paper since hawks website precautions. My question is, how might this have happened? Also will sanding solve this problem or is resurfacing a must? (see pics below)

Looks like normal wear. The rotor surfaces don't appear badly grooved...
... so this is pretty regular-looking from what I can see.
Some like to do a mild cross-hatch pattern when they sand the disc surfaces -- very light x-pattern around the disc. Then you need to 'bed' your pads again, which means making a couple stops, say from 50 to 30 where you press the pedal firmly.
There are other opinions about this too. Just like everything!
The red's gonna look nice -- love those projects with partners; it's a great bonding experience!

You're going to re-use those rotors?
they look like the 5year old rotors they probably are. the lip is from the pad not quite making it over the edge of the rotor (not a biggie). if you have a noticable lip needing sanding, you probably are at the end of their life. since you're bedding in new pads, have the calipers off and it's time anyway.............pop some new rotors on there!

I agree with M...Looks like it's time for new rotors..>>
But you should measure them to be sure...Specs at the link..

spend the extra $ and get a new set of rotors...i think if you measured the thickness of them
it would be too thin to just change new pads.
when rotors get too thin, i would think that they would tend to warp, due to the high heat and would cause more issues down the road, so to speak.

Besides an audi dealership, is there anywhere else I could get rotors today? Slotted have benifits?
Bassicaly all other brake parts just came in a few minutes ago. fluid, pads, ect. got the bushings and bearings and the speader tool as well. Wanted to take care of this today.
Are there any benifits of a slotted pad that I should wait for? or just call up the dealership and buy OEM?
braking components:
Hawk HP+ pads all around
ATE super blue brake fluid
