Default Brake light switch replaced

On Saturday I noticed that my brake lights would not turn off. I went to the VW dealer and bought a replacement switch, but this didn't solve my problem.

Turns out that these switches are very delicate. I got a free replacement today (along with a backup at 1/2 price, THANKS DeMontrond VW/Houston) and this time they gave me the tech bulletin that should have accompanied the first one. The manager was rather ticked at the sales guy who let me out the door without one.

VW goes so far as to say that these switches should only be installed once. If you have to remove it, they want you to use a new one. Being more careful this time not to overtighten, all works well.

List price is $15 or so. Advantage Audi wanted $200 to replace it for me. All I had to do was remove 5 Torx-20 screws and pull off the lower dash.

Note: The switch I removed was Rev B with a black casing. The replacement is Rev D with a lavender casing.

Default Been there, too. I've had a couple replaced under warranty.

Last installation seems to have done the trick...
