Default Brake rotor splash guard removal, any issues? Will the airflow be better with them off?

Do they really do that much in terms of guarding against splashes, I mean the whole outer half of the rotor is still exposed.

Just curious, I'm trying to get better cooling to the rotor and I was also thinking that more airflow might help to clear the brake dust out before it hits my wheels...

TIA
Dan

I wouldn't take that off, its there for a reason. If you want better cooling save up for a BBK :-)

Default Here's a wacky Brake Cooler idea of mine from about 4 years ago....

Use em to mount coolers...Probably more appropriate for track use though..

Default I would (and have) leave them on. Change pads to minimize brake dust. As for the cooling, unless

you are tracking the car or have significantly increased HP, I wouldn't recommend any changes.

Good thinking. When the hose breaks, sparks will shoot out from under the car. Me Likey!

Default with a BBK they have to come off.....the biggest issue >>>

is material getting caught between the pad and the rotor and gouging the rotor....

Default Hmm... That setup solves about 3 of the problems I was thinking of with the cooler idea I had.

I was thinking of useing a wet attachment from a wet dry vac (5/8" x14" opening going into 2.5" hose). But routing the hose was going to be a bear, mounting the collector on the suspension arm solves a lot of problems...

And yes, these ideas are pretty much completely for track days. i would likely only mount the cooler for the track day only and then take it off for normal driving.

Default yup...as Hans says. i left them in originally, and bent the guard back, but in the end

took them out because they constantly made noise when driving slow and turning into parking spaces, etc. was annoying.

and this was with both my BBKs, the porsche (wasn't as bad) and the wilwoods...which was the worse of the two.
