Default Can I swap my ECU myself?

Can I swap my ECU without having some special code from AUDI? I had problems before when it was brought to the dealer ... but this was before the matching problem was solved. I know someone who has the VAG/COM tool ... but is this enough?

Default Depends on whether you have the infamous "K" ECU with the immobilizer

Either way, you can do it yourself, but if you have the immobilizer, you'll need to get a code from Audi.

Here's a write-up I did in my FAQ:

Default Well ... I've got an AT ... but don't really know if a "K" will work.

It's been tried 1 time at the dealer and I'm not sure if they were just clueless. Also ... will AUDI just give me the "secret code"?

Default I believe the "K" will work, but you have to modify the plug on it

I don't think that Audi is just giving out the secret code, but you can either demand that they give it to you, in which case I think they'll comply, or you can contact other dealerships until you find a helpful soul.

I had a K box before and the plug worked fine for me.
