car won't stay running
So, the car sits alot during the winter...I just took it out for a short spin and the cluster is acting flaky (original '01 with 36k). I got back home and turned it off. Popped the hood and pulled the 3 fuses located in the block on top of the battery. The circulating pump was running when I proceeded to pull the fuses working from left to right. When I pulled the first fuse on the left the pump stopped...I then think maybe I should have waited until the pumped stopped.Long story short, no corrosion on fuses. Got back in the car, started but will not continue to run. Any ideas as to what I may have done ? I looked in the FAQs but did not see any clues. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Does it just die, sputter and die? Does it die right after starting or does it run a bit first?
it starts, runs smooth for a few seconds and dies as if the key has been turned off.

Re: Immobilizer
O.K., one other detail, when I first got back in the car and tried starting it after inspecting the fuses, I stuck my Jetta key in the ignition and tried turning the ignition before relizing I had the wrong key...would that have an effect?

If it started and he drove it, it can't be the immobilizer. He wouldn't have been able to get it
going the first time.
Sounds more like a fuel delivery problem to me. The one time I had an immobilizer issue was when the dealer failed to recode all my keys after having a cluster replaced. The car started, ran for maybe a second, and stopped. If it runs for more than a second, I wouldn't guess that the immobilizer was to blame.

Try a different key before you give up.
Immobilizer can just lose one key. Or maybe one key can fail, whichever. There will be an immobilzer yellow icon on the cluster as you try to crank it IIRC. It has been a few years back but I did have one key fail early on and the symptoms were similar to yours. Was able to drive just fine with my spare key.
