Center Console Leg Support - Necessary?

Center Console Leg Support - Necessary?
I'm thinking about removing the driver side leg support on the center console. It gets annoying on long trips. Does anyone know if it is structurally necessary?

I really don't know if it is necessary, so I'm no real help. But I doubt it would cause any more problem than say, that roof rack thingy...
I love my leg support, especially in hard cornering, and in very hard cornering, and in... well you get the point.

there is no way that leg brace has any structural support to the car...
