Default Center dash / fan rattle....

Recently I noticed a new rattle coming from the center dash, possibly below the radio in the climate control console area. It happens whether the fan / AC is on or off and sounds like a small fan spinning and wearing out...or a slight creaking noise. Anyone else have this? ...seems like I read about a small fan in this area, related to the climate control that wears-out. ...did a search, but found nothing. I guess I need to look at my Bentley manual!

Default That explains the extra WHP!

I'll have to check if I can hear the rattle at night when it's parked in the garage. :-P

Default :-) glad you have a sense of humor about it. did you figure out where the noise is coming from?

I can fire up bentley when I get home.
I would guess that it may be a fan inside the air temp sensor area of the CC unit.
(I believe there is a fan in there, I may be wrong)

Also, if you have a tape in the tape deck that may be the cause. Seriously! had a squeak that drove me nuts for a week before I realised that it was my 1/8" tape adapter.

Good luck.

Default Same thing happened to me...

The fan right behind that vent is either loose or broken somehow. Dealer replaced that entire unit of the climate control under warranty.

Default Your experience must be where I read about it....

....I just cringe at the idea of the dealer messing with it. I hope they don't have to drop the whole dash. But I have been lucky with the service they've provided so far.

You're talking about the tiny vent right in the temp control console right?

Default It must be the CC, like SevenTTwo is talking about...

...I don't have the tape player...just in-dash CD. I need to take a look at my Bentley manual too.

Default Maybe - it was a while ago. Little over a year I'm guessing...

I was kinda nervous about it too. I didn't want them messing things up. I believe they did have to drop the dash to be able to get to it, but it worked out fine. They did a good job. It was actually pretty painless. Hopefully your's will turn out better than expected as mine did!

And yes, it's the tiny vent directly above the climate control display. Crazy little rattling fan...

Default Yup, you're right...there's a fan in there.>>

It pulls in air to read temps so that the climate control knows what to do. Or maybe it's just there to rattle and annoy people...
