Center Sliding Cover under Ashtray - Flabbergasted by News from Dealer
Good evening folks,
Truly annoyed at this moment. Last night I walk away from my car and leave my wallet in that small, awkward, sliding area under the ashtray.
So it's a typical folding, leather wallet and it manages to get itself stuck inside and lodged between the sliding part and God knows what.
Long story short, the sliding cover part brakes of the tracks trying to get my wallet out and to my amazement; the dealer wants $450 to repair it. Claims they need to take out the entire center console to repair this now.
Any suggestions people?
I could really smack myself for this one...who knew, $450 for a plastic cover install?
Confused and lost,
Garrett

Mine came off the track once also, same situation with something getting stuck in it....
You don't have to take the whole center console out. I fixed mine by just removing the two side panels and putting it back on track myself. Kind of a tough area to work in, but not to difficult of a fix. Don't waist your money at the dealer, since it is a pretty simple fix. There are little plastic slides that fit in a grove and the cover probably came off one of the sliders. You can fix it yourself.

I also wonder if I just took it off the track, or if I actually broke the part...
guess I'll find out tomorrow when I pick it up...doesn't seem possible.
Thanks again...

Re: Agreed...Check the Bentley >
I popped off my lid via force accidentally trying to route some cables into the tunnel cubby.
Checked the Bentley and found that it is a fairly simple procedure to pop out the entire assembly. I reassembled mine after drilling a couple holes in the back and dropped it back in in under an hour.
Really seems like a much more complicated design than it needs to be...
