Check Engine Light

My Check Engine light came on while I was on a road trip from SF to Phoenix - I just started the car one morning down in Phoenix and the light was on. I have an appointment to have it fixed next week by my Audi dealer and would welcome feedback from others that have had the same symptom as to things to watch out for and to be aware of. Note, I am not too knowledgable when it comes to the inner-workings of cars so laymens terms are better. Also, I have noticed that lately when I up shift I hear a sort of "ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing" noise that is faint and lasts just a short time until the RPMs come down a bit. Any thoughts?

Don't know about the check engine light, but the noise sounds like a shot diverter valve.

Check the gas cap! A loose gas cap has been known to put on the check engine light.
