Cluster warning / temperature

Today I started my 2000 Audi TT and after 1 minute the temperature warning appeared on the cluster and I heard some beeps. I let the engine run and after 1-2 minutes the warning disappeared.

I just bought the car few days ago and I did not have a chance to read the manual in details, but I know that this warning appears when the engine is overheating. Any ideas why it came on when the engine was cold?

Thanks for the input...

p.s. It has plenty of coolant...

some original temp sensors were flakey and have been known>>>

to read wrong and cause a ton of other issues....easily replaced and more than likely your problem....

Temperature warning or Fluid level warning?....>>

Often in cold weather you'll get the level warning as the 2 prongs inside the overflow bottle may be corroded and not conduct well. This is pretty common. They can be cleaned or a new bottle can be bought for little $$. Is the temp gauge working and stabilizing at 1/2 scale when warmed up?

Another failure point id the temp sensor. Many here have upgraded to the newer part. Your 2000 may take the old Blue square shouldered sensor. Newer cars use the oval plugged one and the color is now green. Simple and cheap fix..
