Default Cold idle funkiness? 2003 225

Hi all, long time lurker, looking for some help. Everyonce and a while, when its really cold out (minus 10F today), when I start the car up, it idles fine for like 10 seconds. Then it wants to idle slower, thinking its warmed up. But its not and idle idle sporatically, clunking and barely stays running. I gave it some more gas and let it run at 1500-2000 for awhile, just to get it warmed up some more. After a while once it warmed up, it seems fine. It seems to happen every once and a while, especially when it is really cold outside.

Anything to concerned about, or is just because its too cold? I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Timothy

Default before you turn on the car I would turn the key to acc. and let it sit for like 30 seconds

fuel pump will be running to get fuel in all the lines etc. When it is that cold everything moves slower though the engine. Just give it a little time to warm up without moving, I am sure it will be fine

Thanks for the help. I usually do turn the key and wait a few seconds, but its probably only maybe 10. I'll try waiting longer and see if it makes any difference.

BTW, I see you are a fellow Wisconsinite. Whereabouts? I'm over by LaCrosse.

Thanks again for the help.

Default I am in Milwaukee, my sister goes to Winona Univsersity though

which I think it right by you. I know she goes to parties over in LaCrosse.

My car is a 2000 TT Quattro couple, and when it is as cold as it is in the last several days she needs a little more time to purr

Would probably use the VAG to monitor the signal coming from the coolant temp sensor... perhaps it's acting flaky?

Thanks for the input. Don't have a VAG tool though. I'll keep an eye on it, and then if it still does it, I'll take it somewhere.

Default Tried waiting 60secs after work before starting, did the same thing...

Not as bad as it did this morning, but it still did idle funny. Low fuel light came on right away, so not sure if that has anything to do with it. Maybe some crud on the bottom of the tank? Can't remember if my tank was somewhat empty when this goofy idle happened before. Thanks for your help though. I guess I won't get too worried about it yet.

Yeah, Winona is not too far away, its a nice campus. Maybe see you at the next TT-Midwest? Are you involved in any of the planning? I would love to help out any if you need any volunteers.

Much thanks,
Timothy
