Default Computer memory question...

The other night I mentioned that I just purchased a new laptop. While I haven't received it yet, the laptop I am currently using has 192mb of RAM max. The new one can accomodate up to 320 megs of RAM.

The RAM I have is compatable with the new machine, so I could just swap it and I'd have a faster processor and 192mb or RAM. So the question is, would I notice much of a difference between 320 and 192 megs of RAM, or is 192 probably just fine?

Default It all depends on what you are doing, but yes, you'd notice the difference

especially when running Win200 or XP.

Just so you know, I just got 512MB of SODIMM RAM for my Compaq laptop for about $140.00 shipped. You got such a great deal on the laptop that you might look at the pieces of RAM you have and if there's two slots in the laptop which there probably are, then if you have a 256MB stick already, then another is just $70.00 and you're loaded for bear.

I exclusively use Crucial RAM from Crucial.com

Would depend on which OS, programs you use, & how much is taken by start up programs

Default Toshiba says to use SDRAM...

Will this work? Also, if they say the max RAM is 320, and I can physically put in more than that, will it still work?

Default Depends on the OS, but if you are running an OS that knows how to use 320MB you would notice it

Windows 2000 and XP know how to use RAM properally. 98 does not, I don't think ME does well with more then 256MB. Honisitly the more RAM you put in the faster the machine will be, since it can load more things into memory. If you don't want to spend the money then just use the 192. If you can spare the cash and you are using 2000 or XP get 320, you will not be diappointed. You can always use the 192 for a little but and then upgrade.

Agree on Crucial. Best deal out there. After all, they do manufacture their own stuff...

Default The max ram on my Compaq was much less than 512 according to the

doco that came with it, but a firmware update later it would use up to 512.
