Default The con of 'not all-time Q' on the 'keep me buying a TT thread' is bugging me.

I'm trying to understand why this is even remotely considered a con.

My reasoning is this. The other cars on the list such as BMW Z3, Porsche Boxster, etc. do not even have an option for all-wheel drive like the TT (at least this current model year)

Aside from just being picky about it, how can this be a con against the other models? Sounds like a pro to me...<p>Tom Boucher

Default I don't get it either. Do people understand that Haldex AWD kicks in w/ 10 degrees of slip?

This means less than 1 inch of rubber on the tires must slip for some power to shift to the rears. How can a human detect this? How is this a problem?

All engineering solutions are compromises. This seems like a better compromise (gas mileage vs full time AWD is the simplest way to look at it) than the other current quattro system.

I think it all started because Larry can't induce 4 wheel power slides or drift in his car. It sounds like fun. It sounds like a way to shave time off a lap. It sounds like a reasonable thing to want to do under track conditions. His concern is valid, to him, and that's all that matters.

But it doesn't mean TT quattro is not "real" or lesser than the other current quattro.

I don't have a quattro TT.

Once again, we have a range of owner types here. There are types on both fringes of the spectrum and lots of degrees in between. Us less technical types who are trying to learn from the more educated types, (Ivan is the less educated), can easily get misled into thinking something is broken or sucks. I try to look at what the poster wants, and filter that through what I want.

In other words, Your Mileage May Vary.

Default Contradictory posts about powered four wheel drifts and Q system today...

One said you *could* do powered four wheel drifts in TTQ, another said you could not.

Its possible and fun in the TTfwd for sure.

How about the TTQ, what's the correct answer?

If so, Is the method same as TTfwd or is there a different trick?

Default Don't know about on the dry but on snow it is quite easy

to drift a TTQ. This is accomplished by driving it as one would a RWD, a lot of wheel crank and a heavy blip to break it loose. It would seem the physics would be the same on a dry track, but the adhesion of the tires may well prevent it.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/hstock.jpg " border="0">

Default I wish for zero change in Haldex AWD system.

IMHO, this technology is the best all-round AWD system I have ever experienced.

1) I can park the car in a button hole.
2) Outrun and outhandle ANY SUV on the road under the worst of conditions.
3) Cut through mountain weather like a snow mobile.
4) Kick ANY equilivant FWD or RWD vehicle in the a$$ through the twisties. At the raw edge of crossing the limits of adhesion, Haldex kicks-in instantly and smoothly while never unsettling the car.

Compromise is the key: Haldex does a beautiful job under a wide varity of diverse conditions and demands. The system is a marvel.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/cbsigx.jpg" borders="0">

A friend of mine who is thinking about both a TTR and a new job in the Boston area wondered about TT handling in snow. I suggested he might send you an e-mail to get your comments. Assume you wouldn't mind????
