Default this COULD be disastrous...

ok long story short all the other cars are blocked in the driveway and my mom decides to take my TT grocery shopping. she hasnt driven stick in 15 years...ok as she comes home i see a cloud of smoke pouring out from underneath the car. i take it out for a ride and the clutch doesnt seem to slip but the engine bay stinks of a burning smell. ok so today, 2 days later i take it out for another drive. clutch seems fine, yet after a short run there is still a hint of the burning smell. what to do!! is my clutch shot? anything i can do to prevent anymore damage? just looking for any input before i take it to get a few estimates on what damage has been done and what i will need to replace. thanks a bunch.

Default She either toasted your clutch or left the e-brake up a bit. Wait and see how the clutch...

does before spending the cash to replace it. If you want to test the clutch out...go on the highway...do 50mph in 5th and floor it. If the RPM's shoot up and you dont go anywhere...you need a new clutch.

Default it takes some doing to burn up a clutch in a few miles>>>

the smell can get caught in the ventilation system for a while.....drive it for a day...if it does not slip in fourth gear at WOT....you may have only lost 10K miles or so....;^/

If it was A LOT of smoke...also check the rear brakes...she may have left the e-brake on...

don't freak about the smell, if the car drives fine you're all set.

Default just got back from garage, all 4 pads were changed 2 months ago and the rear is now >

MUCH more worn than the front, still plenty left though. slight discoloration on the rear pads due to the excess heat from leaving the e brake up but everything seems fine now. thanks again for the tips. im sure as hell glad it was just the brakes.
