Default cracked windshield

Aaarg - this morning on the way to work ... 'crack' of a piece of gravel hitting the screen. Looks like it hit right at the absolute edge of the windshield on the passenger side, literally the rock mark is within 2mm of the edge. The crack is probably about 4", perhaps longer.

Is it going to keep getting longer? If it doesn't, I can probably just ignore it, it's a long way from where I'm normally looking.

Is the TT windshield installation sufficiently difficult to fight with the insurance company to make sure an Audi service center does it? I have heard horror stories of windshields badly replaced leading to bubbling paint around the edges etc.

Default it could evolve into a "pinnochio crack"

getting longer and longer...

i had my insurance busted by a pebble last year in my Volvo and the insurance claim was no problem. I guess it depends on your company. As for the replacement of it, it will probably be fine as long as you take it to a quality dealership or body shop.

cheers

Most insurance companies will repair a 4 inch crack without a deductible. It's repaired with epoxy. But you should do it asap since the crack will grow. After 4 inches, it can be repaired.

too late - I got back to the car this evening and it had spread already. When I got home I measured it at 8". The insurance company is being quite nice about it. They will pay up to a certain amount, I'll end up paying $100 or so myself to get it done by Audi but reading some of the other posts about windshields I think that's the right thing to do, I want it done properly.

Had a chance to look at the original impact crater, that thing must have hit hard, there's nearly a 1mm depression full of white powdered glass.
