Default CRAP! engine just died, 1 block from work. now starter just spins up... never "catches"

i am calling AAA at lunch to tow it to the shop...

there was nothing violent about the engine stopping, i just noticed the throttle not responding... then turned the corner without power steering, and drifted to a stop. i tried restarting, but it never catches. all power seems ok, but something is definitely strange with how the starter feels... like it is not attached. but the starter wouldnt cause the engine to die.

any guesses before the shop can scan for codes?

thanks!

Default it better not be the belt! my timing kit arrives today!!

72k miles (i know...)

CEL on from previous boost leak, dunno about new codes.

wouldnt a broken belt be noticable? slightly violent? (as things are breaking and bending)?

Default TB failures are frequently being reported as "very subtle" ends - no big crash, etc. Plus it seems

quite a few go with TB kits "on the way"... Sorry, but it really is sounding that way...

I better order myself a kit, and not drive the TT until it is in.

Default Not necessarily. It could even be that the teeth came off the belt...

That happened on a friend's A4. =/

It might just be a little slack, with a worn out tensioner. Jumps a couple notches and poof.
