Dealer says all production to switch to 225 Quattro only
(sorry if this is old news, didn't see it mentioned in any recent postings)
I called to set up a (2nd) test drive and the dealer (Barrier in Bellevue, WA) said:
They'd just been told a few days ago that there will no longer be 180 HP nor 2WD TTs. All future production will be 225 HP Quattro, only choice being Coupe or Roadster. They're currently calling up all the people who had put down deposits on 180s to ask if they want to keep in line for the 225s.
This decision from Audi, they say, based upon the European market, where 225s have already been available and are selling so well vs. the 180.
So of course the test drive was in a 180, be nice to know what the 225 feels like. I was willing to pay for the Quattro, wasn't sure about the extra wait or cost of the 225. If you wanted a 225 (ignoring cost - of course I do!), this sounds like good news, because they should be more production capacity (and faster, since they'll now have 2 models rather than 8)
They think 225s will be about $4-5K more than similar 180s, but nothing known for sure.
Any similar news from elsewhere?

If that is the case
I would suspect that all un-modified 180's, or unspoiled if you wish, should have real value as collectors cars when they age enough to become classics, even more so, perhaps, the 180 TTQ's because, I believe, there will be even fewer of them. Gee maybe I should shrink wrap my TTQ and buy a 225Q as my daily driver. I can always explain it to my wife as a sound economic decision. Some thing along the lines of: "I'm really doing this for your benefit, dear."

Rascal, I thought you were a bean counter (more)
To get $33k to $1 million in 30 years, you need a CAGR of 12.05%. Not a bad return over the long haul, but mutual funds are a hell of a lot easier to store than a car (and you don't have to insure them!!)
