Denny/Lloyd: Privacy shield still rattles - more silicone?
I was able to pry open the two halves near the hanger but I still get a good "crack" sound when I go over larger bumps, not surprising I guess because I hear the same sound when I press on the back edge of the shield. In short, the rattle is
reduced significantly, but driving without it installed is still quieter.
I wasn't able to pry open the back edge - should I just try a bit harder? How much of the perimeter have other people done? I couldn't find a good way to pry it without leaving little marks, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance...

You'll always get some noise over sharp bumps....
but you might try sueezing silicone in more places.
Also. Brad got his dealer to replace the shield inder warranty...you might get a quiet replacement.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/keyfob.jpg">

Try This - It fixed my noise
It looked to me that the noise was caused by the two plastic halves of the privacy shield flexing against each other. I seperated the two and then ran a piece of drafting tape (masking tape) around the outside edges where the two pieces touch. I then filled the alignment tabs with silicone and press fit it all back together. No more noise....
I separated the two halves.
I separated the two halves.

That's the question - how do you separate the halves?
If I could separate the halves, I could fill the interior with silicone, but it didn't feel like I could without breaking something...

Yep. Luck of the draw. Glad the silicone fixed my rattle and squeak.

I was worried, too, but .......
put a screwdriver in the small slot below the tab and gently lever it up. If you persist the two halves will separate quite cleanly and smoothly. Then keep moving the screwdriver along in the gap until you've separated as much as you want. I guess to do the job thoroughly you need to completely separate the two halves as Jefrrey did.
Good luck.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/keyfob.jpg">

Re: Denny/Lloyd: Privacy shield still rattles - more silicone?
I found that if you pry the two halves apart and then remove the steel square reiinforcment that is pressed into the recess (there's two one front and one back) that this is the culprit. The plastic squeeks against the steel. The metal seems to be typical teutonic overkill because the rigidity is good. Seal it up with silicon and you should be quiet. Hope this helps.
