Default According to information posted a few days ago...

...the law states that a dealer must be able to demonstrate that your modification lead directly to the failure before they can deny coverage.

In other words, they couldn't deny you coverage on an electrical gremlin in your dash because you installed an after-market DV unless they could prove that the DV caused the failure. Highly unlikely.

And my understanding is that the burden of proof is on the dealer, not on you.

Someone will certainly correct me if I'm wrong.

Default An AoA 'consumer advocate' told me that using non-OEM wiper blades would void your warranty....

I've decided that the best route is to become an informed consumer and make my own choices. To void your warranty, a manufacturer needs to prove that damage was the result of a change to a non-OEM part. (BTW, your turbo is more likely to be damaged by the Bosch valve than the Bailey valve(IMHO), but if it makes you feel better that the damage would be covered, stick with the OEM.)

I heard they will void the warranty if any air not from the "motherland" is aspirated by your TT :-)

Default MissJ...posts are personal opinion such my reply to your question, BUT...

an after market part (eg non OEM)installed in a vehicle can not be arbitrarly cited by a dealership as voiding a car warranty. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (which is a federal law)(and I am abreviating for this post) says warranty coverage may not be conditioned upon the use of only the vehicle manufacturers parts unless parts are provided free of charge. In other words use of a non-carmaker product should not void your warranty unless it CAUSED the problem (citation SEMA go to www.sema.org access federal legislation and warranties for full discussion issue and consumer rights). In the case of the DV this would be called a 'pattern failure' (being common to the 1.8T family of engines...and as well as S4 2.7T engines) for which Audi has no fix (yes such a fix would be free) and in many cases cars with failed DVs are taken out of service due to back orders of OEM DVs. Enter Bailey Valve...it is 'after market', is not a performance enhancement (eg ECU chip, larger sport turbo etc) but rather is spec'd to do what the OEM was SUPPOSED to do, is better made and corrects the problems CREATED by defective OEM DVs. I my case my 225TTC (nice color you have selected for your car..AMULETT)became undrivable, Audi had NO DVs available, no fix was on the horizon and as such I got the Bailey back in July...told my service advisor everything each step of the way...after Bailey install went by dealership to show and drive and got the blessings of the advisor and the parts manager (who happens to have a TT and also, after seeing what I did, order the Bailey because he KNEW Audi had no fix period.
For me I have a very high comfort level on the issue of the warranty but as I started out saying that is a personal decision...it's your call.
Hope this helps.<p><img SRC="http://eerickso.tripod.com/amulettsig2.jpg" BORDER=0>
