Default I do it, I also have been working on my clutchless shifting

How I look at it... if I do not hear any grinding things are ok. I don't see how pulling the shifter into neutural would hurt the car or the transmission unless you somehow get it to grind.

Default Actually you would be surprised...

The car itself seem to guard itself. What I do is pull the stick out of gear, and if i am downshifting give it a little gas... match the revs, and lightly press the shifter agasint the gate to the gear I want to go into. Then when the revs match it literally pulls the gear in. Of course there are the few times that you do not put the shifter in fast enough and it will grind a bit. After some practice it becomes fairly easy.

I do this on any car I have driven since my old 5000 Turbo Quattro. The TT is NOT the best car to practice on, it has an odd diffrence in RPM's. For instance the Boxster S is exactly 1000RPMs either way for shifting up or down. The TT is something like 600-800, I could tell you when I do it, but not right now- can't remember. It is a feeling.

I do it when I am tired of using the clutch and do not need to make super quick shifts. I am not fast enough at rev matching to use it for racing or anything like that. Just it is just fun to do, and from what I can tell it is not hurting anything. I am sure someone will chime in and tell me that my car is forever destroyed because of this. Who knows.

Default I Use Redline MT90 in mine... for the front transaxle you need

about 2.3-2.6 Litres... so buy yourself 3 bottles. I am planning on doing the rear final drive this spring, for that you will need about 2 bottles of Redline 75w90. Ive had the MT90 in since about 10K kms and Ive got 25K kms on it now...it eliminated my third gear grind..improved notchiness as well, although doesnt completely eliminate it...but does help alot.. i had my dealer put it in...its easier to do if its on a hoist..
