Default Dyno Day - help for the lazy . .

it seems Dyno Day generated a lot of testosterone and arm waving, before I spend 27 hours reading the 3214 posts, did anyone find an exhaust or chip giving good results?
or do I have to spend the time reading . . . . .

Default I am ONLYspeaking for myself and AM NOT judging other chips etc....

I was very pleased with the MTM ECU - Forge Milltek exhaust setup on my 225. Unfortunately there were a few posts that change the character of the dyno day from a positive learning experience for all that attended to some us having to defend our testing...but more on that in another post I am going to do.
Here are the results for OcTTober (Dave 225TTR) and me (225TTC)...both have same set up:

(I am using a 120% conversion factor (maybe 117% is better?...select whatever you feel is appropriate and readings are SAE)
Dave W 225TTR 214 hp (wheel) 257 hp (crank)
257 T (wheel) 308 T (crank)*
AMULETT 209 hp (wheel) 251 hp (crank)
254 T (wheel) 305 T (crank)*
*if you use the 117% factor then T would be 301 lbs and 297 lbs respectively
***********************************
THIS IS A NEW ADDITION to my post based on my conversation with dyno people this morning 4/16/01)
I think 118% is closer to the delta of wheel to crank readings for the TT so another set of numbers would be:
Dave 252 hp 303 T
AMULETT 247 hp 300 T
*******************************
% deviation between the two cars is ~1% for Torque and 2+% for hp
Now what does that tell you...nothing other than the PEAK output and for me that the results are well within acceptable range for variation between 'two identically set up cars'.
There are so many different ways to look at the readouts, but one that interested me was at WHAT RPM did you have the best readings and again Dave's TT and AMULETT are close:
Dave 225TTR max T at 5100 rpm
max HP at 3700 rpm
AMULETT max T at 5000 rpm
max HP at 3400 rpm

Both cars were running air/fuel ratios on the rich side starting at 5500 rpm and thus both were seeing the power drop at the same time.

Now back to this response...numbers confirmed what Dave and I have been saying...3rd and 4th gear pull of our two cars is fantastic and the torque numbers at the rpms noted bear this out totally.
On the issue of 'running lean' to 'running rich' is something he and I are going to talk to the MTM importer about...just to see what their position is on this issue...so stand by

Default Numbers (particularly torque) were not as impressive with the APR chip on the 225, but I didn't ....

expect them to be. (I have the APR EMCS and Forge-Milltek exhaust.) I still love the way the car feels to drive and like the feature of being able to switch the chip to stock without removing the ECU. Several of us dynoed our cars both chipped and stock to see the differences.

Default jim -- as i recall, the difference at the peak was only about 5 hp, but...

for most of the useful driving range, the difference was significantly more. ellen can provide the actual figures -- but i think the important data will come from a reading of the entire power curve, not just the peak. i will be posting my own figures this evening (i also have an apr chip and an mtm exhaust, with a 180qc). i did not do a run with stock mode, however. probably should have, but i didn't want to back others up as i went near the beginning.

Default Yes I agree that area under the curve is the important change . Boy I would love to see the numbers

..on your car in both modes (stock chipped) as I have an APR chip also. BTW didn't Cliff attend? I didn't see any results for his car. JIM
