Hello everyone. I would like to know if anyone knows what engine Audi will use for the TTS? I read it could be the turbo charged VR6 used in the Beetle turbo show car producing 350bhp. Or a heavily modified version of the 225 inline 4 that would make 300bhp OR some kind of 5 cylinder engine?

Does anyone have any new news?

All sorts of engines have been and are being tested in the TT. I spoke with an Audi test driver recently that had been driving a 268hp VR6 TT. There was talk at the last Audi Tech school of an A6 frame based TT with the 4.2 V8 in it doing testing in the Los Angeles area.

Most anything at this point is probably speculation, but if you can imagine some sort of body/engine combination, it's probably out driving around somewhere.

Give me a break. That's a bunch of hogwash. Such a car wouldn't be anything like the current TT.

The engine in the A6 is not transverse, for starters. So you can kiss your short nose goodbye. Plus the 4.2 V8 requires the A6 be stretched another 3 inches longer than its already long length.

Also, the VR6 moniker is exclusively used by VW, never by Audi. For two different engines, nonetheless.

An A6-based roadster might not be the worst idea ever, but it won't be anything like a TT in size nor likely in name.

And they certainly see demand for a coupe of such sort (which would have a full back seat). People buy the Lexus SC series, so there is obviously a market. Such a car may not handle like a TT, but it would certainly have similiar looks.

Yes, there is a market for a full-size couple. But, it is small. The Lexus SC doesn't sell very well.

A full size coupe with a longitudinal engine and a full back seat would look nothing like a TT. At least, not much more than my A6 does. Yes, the rear is similar on the A6 and TT (the fronts are quite different), but the proportions are nowhere near the same. Audi would need to at least double the length of the trunk area to match the hood and thus make the car "symmetrical" like a TT. Now you are talking a REALLY long car.

Lexus sold 2999 SCs in 1997. It fell to 1766 in 1998. Want to guess on 1999? Also, figure 2/3rds of these are 300s, not 400s and therefore no competition for even the current TT's speed.

1766 is fewer sales than Audi sells A8s. That is a low volume car, let me tell you.

If Audi goes forward with this A6 based coupe (TT style), expect it to cost a fortune so they can make money on it.

I would expect the "A6 based" Audi coupe that was seen was actually the new A4 coupe, which is not expected to sell well either. Audi is basically developing it as a platform to make a convertible from.

All I know is what I read and a comment by someone from Audi that they thought there was a market and that it could potentially capitalize on the momentum of the TT and the A6.
