Are ESP cars more prone to failures?

Are ESP cars more prone to failures?
Lately I have noticed several posts regarding front-wheel spin and ESP light flashing. Many have suggested these are due to potential haldex controller issues.
My TT is an early 2001 without ESP (by choice) and I don't have any haldex issues so far despite many mods and track days.
My question is: Are the ESP equipped care more likely to have issues? Possibly because they had an added complexity of the ESP parts?
Or, does ESP help you identify haldex problems before they get too bad?
Lonely days in London without my TT (it's in Texas) are driving me to crazy thoughts.
