Default False Alarm Soundings - can we attempt to consolidate what we all know about the alarms going off?

What do we all know about the alarms going off in error? I'm hoping we can build a thread that people with the problem can print off and take to the service department with the hope of helping them find the problem.

I think my alarm has gone off three times for no apparent reason. Only one time could I find animal prints on the car (okay I hadn't washed it in a few day!). One time I was nearby and there was NOTHING around the car. We had an impending thunderstorm and animals were even hiding from the coming rain. Nothing was around to set it off. The last time it happened I had left my cell phone in the car. The UK forum thinks this is related. The other times I don't think I had left my phone in the car considering once it happened in the middle of the night and my phone was in the charger.

Other wierd electrical problems

Windows:

So far my car has had a few problems with the window venting gap closing after the top is put down or after the doors are closed. The gap sizes are different but the solution has been the same for me. If I turn the off/on then put the windows down/up I close the gap.

When I use the auto-up/down feature I get mixed results. So far it has only had the problem on the up. I had to fight the driver's window to get it to go up all the way but was successful after 4 attempts of auto-up.

One day when my fiance was closing the passenger door, the window went down all on its own.

Lights:

I haven't figured out the pattern for me yet but I do have a problem with the lights. I have NEVER locked the car doors because of the fear that the doors might lock and not want to unlock.

That's about all the detail I can share on my problems.

Anyone else want to contribute?

Bill

Default A friend received a call on her cell phone while standing next to my car and it set off the alarm...

I've also had the interior lights stay on twice after starting the car and twice after locking the car. Haven't really noticed any pattern to when it happens.

Default Only happened to me once.

Just after midnight on New Year's. I guess it was the result of the Y2K bug, since it hasn't happened since.
Pat R -- Arlington, Virginia

Default False Alarm Soundings - happens to me too!

My alarm system has also went off for no apparent reason. I received about 3 different phone calls at different times of the day and had several co-workers stop by to tell me that my alarm was going off. I took the car in for service and they had received a tech report on the alarm system that stated the contact wires located under the "tunnel" may need cleaning. They placed drops of a cleaning solution on the contacts and also reduced the sensitivity according to the report. It seemed to take care of it but only for about a month. It just went off again two days ago sitting in a parking lot with nothing around it. Because it hasn't happened as frequently as before, I'm going to document the occurrences and determine if it needs further checking. A suggestion, whenever you take the car in for regular maintenance request they clear out any security alarm codes from the computer. This way, they can see what has been happening between visits.
