Default Final Gear Ratio.. Can it be done for our cars?

I don't need to go 160mph but do need to get to 140 faster.. so whats the deal? Can it be done and how much would it cost? Also if I did something like this wouldn't it make my gears shorter? I mean first is kinda short as is, I couldn't imagine it getting any shorter.. thanks

Default TDI Final drive...

Or Contact Quaife...they can custom gear sets for you...not a cheap option, but an option all the same.

Default well, it would have to wait till next summer.. this is

definitely something I want to do since I shouldn't be going 163mph.. besides I don't have stage 3 so getting there would take too long.. Getting to 140 takes to damm long.. i guess ill have to do more testing when I get a chip to confirm all this..

Default TDI have the 02J box - and 225's have the 02M as do the 180TTQ's - there are 2 final drives

one for gears 1-4 and one for 5 or 5 and 6 for the six speed box. There are plenty of gear sets to choose from for the 02M - the 337 and 24V VR6 6 speeds have different ratio's as do the 5 and 6 speed 02M boxes. I'm gonna swap my final for a taller 1-4 so when I have close to 300hp - i'm not using a gear box geared for 180hp. I really don't see the need to go any shorter. Here's a chart of the current gearing for the various different MKIV platform cars including both 180 and 225 TTQ's.

Default so how would you do that?

do you just buy a new tranny? or gear sets? who sells these, and how much do they run? we gonna be able to find a local mechanic willing to take apart our transmission?

i wanted to put a 6spd in, but i dont really want the 225's gearing either. and i dont wanna drop thousands of dollars on somewhat of a convenience mod.

Default Well - the only way to buy these gears is through the dealer or an aftermarket place that

can source these items. Expect to pay about 8 hours labor to tear the tranny down and swap the gears. I have no idea what the cost of the individual gears are either. If you look at the chart - you'd replace 2,3 and 4 and move fifth to sixth or add a different sixth gear. I know that changing the fifth gear on an 02J in simple and doesn't require a tranny teardown - in fact it can be done with the tranny still in the car. I have NO idea about the 02M, so I'll assume the worst that you have to remove the tranny to change the final drive.
