Default Finally Getting My TT Back!!

After 3 attempts in picking up my TTQ from the Audi dealership, who dinged my car door, I finally get to take it home tonight. They have had it since January 14th for its first oil change. They have decided to compensate me by giving me a $50 gas card and an extended 10 year powertrain warranty.

Does anyone know what this extended warranty would cost if someone were to buy it?

Thanks,

Jon

Congratulations on getting your TT back. When I finally got mine back after 5 straight weeks in the shop, I wanted to cry (driving Buicks and Escorts will do that).

I think that it's interesting that Audi extended your warraranty for an extra 5 years for the door ding. I asked them to do that for my own piece of mind, as my car was in the shop for over 70 days within the first 8 months of ownership. They essentially told me to pound sand.

Default Extrended Warranty just another ploy

After arriving at the dealership they went over the warranty with me. It is what they call their lifetime warranty, which will cover any problems that are not wear items on the transmission, engine, and transfer case. This warranty is only good for "life" if I do all my service with Beechmont Audi. I can't imagine getting air for my tires there let alone regular service.

I also found out that they took it to another body shop in town. Not the best, like they said that they would. I guess they didn't feel my car was worth it.

I also found out that for a door ding they had to refinish my rear quarter panel, remove and install the rear quarter glass, and remove and install the taillight assembly. I think they did more than they are telling me. I feel violated!

Bottom line: Don't take your car to Beechmont Audi for service ever and if your car is damaged at the dealership, view the car before it goes to the body shop!

Default That is an outrage...

It sounds like they damaged your TT big time, and then lied about both the extent of the damage, and the quality of the repair facility. I would be so p.o.ed! What in the world did they do to your car? I'd talk to both the repair facility and the dealer to discover the true extent of the damage. If it's severe enough, you may be entitled to much more.

Default Call a lawyer and get a name of an estimator they use. He/she can tell you all that happened down .

to the last rivet and bolt. I can't imagine what might have happened except they (paint shop?) went for a joyride and couldn't handle the car and wrecked it. G-d knows what else is wrong.

Sorry to preach doomsday, but you sir, were screwed.

My enraged $.02

Default Damaged TT's (LONG, maybe helpful)

On the off chance that my experience might be of some interest to you in this situation, I'll relate the saga of my prior damage TT delivery. In july of last year, I took delivery of a new fwd TT. Several days later, I happened to notice a slight band of orange peel that ran across the roof, side-to-side, at about the midpoint of the roof. It was VERY difficult to see, nearly impossible to see out in the daylight, but I happened to notice it when I caught a glimpse of a reflected bare bulb in the garage one evening. I took the car back to the dealership, who appologized for not noticing this, and who said that they would take it to the city's best paint facility to have it corrected by polishing or painting, whichever the shop felt would provide the best result. Before we could schedule that, I took the car on a week-long vacation, during which time it was left out in a heavy downpour. I discovered afterwards that the passenger side carpeting was soaked (yes, the windows were closed!), and while removing the mat to let it dry, I noticed bits of broken window glass beneath the passenger seat.

At this point, I began to do some earnest sleuthing. I observed that all the other TT's at the dealer had an alarm decal on BOTH rear windows; mine was missing on the passenger side, indicating that the glass had been replaced. I also discovered a small area of overspray at the bottom rear shutline of the passenger door. Several screws were missing from the rear fender liner on that side. I then took the car to an independent body shop where they had a paint thickness gauge, and asked to have them read the thickness on all the body panels. It showed that the entire roof had been repainted (with the likelihood of a slight film of filler material where the orange peel showed), as well as the entire right rear quarter. They also concurred that the right rear glass had been replaced, and said that the whole scenario was similar to transport damage such as they had seen before.

My dealer could not have been more appologetic about the situation, and promised to do whatever they could to make sure that I came away from this a satisfied customer. They asked only that I give them a bit of time to try to trace the transportation history of the car and exchange some communication with Audi. ( Apparently all of Germany is on vacation in August!) They eventually determined that the car had sustained some damage in Germany, perhaps due to the vandalism that occurred on the trains to Gyor, and had been subjected to some degree of repainting there. Audi authorized replacement of the car. They proceeded to locate another car for me, one that was in transport to Texas port, and when it arrived it was immediately put on a transport to Minneapolis. The car arrived one afternoon, and was ready for delivery the next morning. Through it all, the Dealer phoned me constantly to apprise me of their progress, to make certain that they were obtaining exactly the color/options I wanted, or just to tell me that they'd made no progress yet but that they were working on it and hadn't forgotten me. They repurchased my damaged car in a "customer satisfaction buyback" for slightly more than I'd paid, so that the extra money could be used to cover administrative costs, licensing, etc. There was not one penny cost to me. They even brought paperwork to my place of work for signing so that I wouldn't have to make an extra trip to the dealership. A week later I got a call from the sales rep asking me if the new car was up to snuff, and a letter from the general manager thanking me for giving them a chance to work things out to my satisfaction. Given a situation that could have become very unpleasant, I could not be more impressed with their professionalism, attidude, and eagerness to make things right. I don't really know the full story behind the damage history of the car, or who participated in the attempt to conceal it, nor do I care any longer. I'm satisfied with the outcome, and am quite content to have the whole matter behind me.

A long story, I know, but hopefully there's something in there that might be of help to you. I would suggest going over the car with a paint gauge, operated by someone with experience. It will determine a base value for paint thickness, and indicate any significant variations from that. At least you'll KNOW the extent of repainting, and can then decide a course of action that is based on some reasonable fact. Best of luck!
