Default First electrical problem.........

Went out a couple days ago and hit unlock on the remote, got in, turned the key to start. Click was all I heard as I sat there and watched everything go out and reset to 000 on the dash and radio went into safe mode. Checked battery voltage (9 volts). Put the charger on the battery for awhile. Tried again and it starts right up. Checked the battery while running and it showed (14.2 volts). Battery and alternator seem to be in working order. What I worked the problem down to is that as long as I don't use the remote to lock the car and do it buy useing the key in the door everything is fine. When I lock using the remote it always drains the battery. So from following the forum I'm guessing that I have contracted the lock/light bug? Central locking control module? Would like to have some info before I take it into the dealer.

Thanks, Brad

Default Audi batteries hate the cold. Sounds like yours has a bad cell.

I did read your message and understand about the difference in behavior between locking with the key fob and with the key in the door. I still think you should look at a new battery first (under warranty).

Default Same symptoms with Wife's New Beetle Battery. It had a short and would only produce 100+ amps vs.

600+ Cold Cranking amps like it should

Default Thanks people! ..... another thing I noticed ---->

is that when I had the battery cover off is that the battery can move around quite a bit from end to end. Everything else I owned always had a clamp or something to hold the battery in place. There's pads around 3 sides of the battery but the end towards the fender is basically open. Am I missing some parts or something here?

Default Actually, I think you might be!

The battery was damaged in my accident. The battery casing is very different to me on my TT.

The battery itself is wrapped in a protective soft sleeve. Possibly insulation? Then that sits in a plastic enclosure, like a big airbox but open on the top. On top of the battery sits a wiring harness. The battery cover goes on top of that.

I am missing the battery enclosure as it was backordered. I have the soft sleeve. I recall that the broken enclosure had 4 sides.

My car is a 180 and some of the covers are different due to different engine config between the 180 and 225.

Default Looks like I have the same thing as you.....

but my plastic box only has three sides. The one end is gone that faces the driver fender. Looks like I'm missing some parts. All the pads seem to be there. It's just that you can slide it end to end about 2". Everything else seems to be there as you mentioned. Thanks for your help, Brad
