Default Fluttering sound heard...

Along with my lowered performance and gas mileage, I've been hearing a fluttering sound instead of the usual "whoosh". This happens only when I take my foot off the pedal, under what I assume was high boost and heavy acceleration (assuming as I don't have a boost gauge).

I thought it was my OEM 710N, but I replaced with with a Forge 007 and it still makes a fluttering noise. I'm thinking my old DV was okay.

What else could cause the noise? Boost leak?

Default Lowered performance and worse mileage?.....

Ain't the VTDA. Something else is wrong with your car. I'm thinking you have a leak of some sort....tear in a hose or something. Did you overtighten the clamp on the hose that goes to the top of the DV? That's a common place for a rip.

Default Oh, I know it's not my VTDA. Stated that due to the VTDA "amplifying" air related noises. :)

I replaced the DV because of the fluttering sound, but it's still there. I didn't see any tears in any of the hoses in the immediate are of where the DV plugs in, but I can inspect more carefully once the rain stops.

Are there any other common areas that leak?

Thanks!

Default depending on how old your car is, there are numerous places in the hoses

that develop leaks and tears.....I've been out of the TT arena almost 2 years now and it's getting a little fuzzy as to the common problem areas.

Try searching a bit or someone with more current knowledge will probably chime in soon.

Default 2001 - already at 8 years and just passed 80K miles the other night. Thanks for the help.

I already plan on replacing my O2 sensors and overhauling the PCV system as soon as the weather is a little nicer. She help out with gas mileage at least, I hope.

Doubtful it will impact the fluttering sound I'm hearing.

Default I don't think so. The noise your described sounds like when my cam chain tensioner was failing...

except the noise was coming from the drivers side of the engine, not the passenger side as yours is.

Default hmm.. well tomorrow I'm off to the mechanics :/ question>>

about Vag-com software..

Do I just order the software license?
for about $100

then buy the usb interface off ebay

OR

Do I buy the professional or super pro software?

AND

What Is the difference between these? :]

Default Good luck. You trying the shop in Sonoma? I purchased a Vag-Com cable from eBay...

and a license for the older 409 software.

I've read the Vag cable + software works a bit better/is faster/less buggy, but for the little I do with it, the eBay cable and license has worked okay for me.
