Nonetheless, Chrysler has sped up the production timetable for the Crossfire sport coupe (the production version shown here bows at L.A.) and, to get it done, will source its motor from the Mercedes SLK, with the 215-horsepower V-6 finding its first home in an American badged product. Still, since Chrysler lacked production capacity of its own, it's recruited coachbuilder Karmann of Osnabrueck, Germany, to craft the car.
While it clearly echoes (swipes?) a lot of lines from the Audi TT, the Crossfire is a bit less bulbous overall, with a classic long roadster hood and most of the cabin sitting well aft of the car's midpoint.

http://www.forbes.com/lifestyle/2002/01/07/0107feat_3.html</a

My first true profile of the car... Odd, that they chose to pair that front end, with that back, as
each could have been part of a very interesting design study. Right now, the sense of scale is all wrong - way too long in the tooth... IMO But, then again, I suppose people might've thought that about the original XKEs... who knows?

Saw it last night at L.A. Auto Show...
The TT rip isn't as immediate of an impression compared to the Nissan Z (saw that too), which if not for the 'rice-loving' teen audience around the turntable, looks flacid compared to the Crossfire. I think the 19's looked alright but didn't seem neccessary.
But overall, I coveted the silver TTs at the Audi exhibition much more. The TT overall comes off a little more refined and timeless, whereas with the Crossfire, I wonder how dated it will look 5 years from now...

Someone on the SLK forum pointed out the interior ...
