Default Fuel Gauge ALWAYS full?!?

I read lots of forum about other people's fuel level gauge being empty or stuck but I haven't read gauge always being fully. Is the sending unit broken or is it just bad ground connection?

Mine is full (well past full actually) most of the time. When I get to about half a tank on the gauge then I'm empty in the tank. I chalk it up to a bad cluster, not the sending unit or floater.

Knock on wood, the only other issue I have with the cluster is the corrupt data on the center info display. Gets worse the hotter it is outside.

Have you checked the cluster with VAG.com?

There have been a lot of cluster failures on the TT, specifically the fuel and temperature gauges as well as the information display.

There was a recall (now expired).

If the "miles to empty" in the info display is reading correctly the cluster is bad, if it aggrees with the fuel tank gauge the fuel sender needs to be replaced or cleaned.

Try some techron fuel system cleaner in the tank to clean the sender it sometimes works.

Mine does the same thing - had the gauges swept and turns out it's a bad cluster - Should be covered under the recall.

Recall has expired! Unless you can prove that you reported the problem to your dealer before it expired you are out of luck.

I know I have a bad cluster but the VAG says it's fine.

try a bottle or 2 of techron FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER.

our gauge does this time to time. A bottle of techron usually does the trick. If not, try a second (or more) bottle.

could be other problems, but could be the fuel sending units need cleaning.

I haven't check with VAG.com yet but I assume you're right on the dot. It still gives the "miles to empty". I'll try Techron cleaner to see it that clear it up. Thanks.

Just a question, how to a fuel cleaner additive help resolve the fuel level gauge? It uses a floater to send out different ohm signal in reference to fuel level gauge. I highly doubt the fuel will be so dirty they it'll interfere with the floater.
