Default Grrrrr.... $230 oil change??!!?? DC area maintenance help!

First time I'm getting my 180TTq serviced outside of its warranty window... shocked that an oil change and a couple of level checks are going to run me $230. On top of it, I've got the dreaded spring / strut squeak in the front. I don't dare imagine what they'll charge me for that.

I'm hoping this will be my last trip to Rockville Porsche / Audi -- ever -- because some wonderful person on this board will tell me about their super secret mechanic they use for maintenance on their Audi.

Do it myself? I'd love to. I don't have a driveway.

Thanks in advance.

I may not be able to afford to maintain this car.

Default Follow-up : Estimate for "repairs"

Well, I got the estimate. 5.5 hrs of service. Replacing the sway bar, bushing, links, and re-aligning the wheels afterwards. $300 parts, for a total of $850 (estimate).

I'm putting this off because I just can't afford it right now, but realize that if I let it get worse, I'll afford it even less.

Anyone have any alternatives, or does this all sound normal, and I'm just not?

Default My front sway bar was creaking loudly a while ago. I had my mechanic lube the bushings. Now quiet.

My rear bushings still squeak. They're going to lube them off the car today. Hopefully that does the trick.

Oh, and they charged me CDN$50 (or so) for an oil change with 5w40 synthetic. Sounds like you need to find a non-dealer mechanic. Sorry I can't help you there.

Default Just a lube issue on the sway bar?

Anyone else on the boards care to second that? Every speed bump makes a squeak. Could be a different problem, I suppose....

Default If your bushing or swaybar is cracked, no amount of lube will help.

I started with the lube, sound went away, I didn't go any further.
