Default Haldex Replacement

I just took my 180hp 2000 TT coupe for the 60k service at an audi dealer. i was stunned when i was told that i need to replace my haldex ecu for $2000+ canadian. apparently they did a ecu check and found that the haldex was faulty and cannot be fixed and needed to be replaced.

does anyone have any experiences like this?
should i take it to another dealer just to confirm it's not a computer glitch?
