Default It's not too bad without the lift and the other 2 hands ...

As long as you have a jack that goes high enough

I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually. I just worry about not getting enough fluid in there.

Our last change...175 ML came out, Tube is 275 ML...Plenty of margin for spillage!

Default Re: Here...

One thing to keep in mind is the that is supposedly just a port for checking fluid level, not for filling.

They want you to fill from the bottom to avoid getting an air pocket or some such, and that the caulking tube of fluid supposedly contains enough extra to allow for some spillage as well as the fluid that will remain in the tube/nozzle.

If you have excessive spillage, I suppose you could take the excess left in the tube, empty into a clean container, suck it into a large syringe, and inject it into the upper port after the primary fill.

HTH,
Stott

Default I've always wondered about the logic to fill from the bottom. However, if injecting from the bottom

shouldn't there be some sort of vent to allow air to escape while the fluid is pumped in from the bottom? i.e. should that inspection plug be removed before bottom filling?

FWIW I've done it both ways, through the bottom and inspection hole, and both seem to work OK. Through the bottom seems "messier" but as you said, that's the way it was designed. (Still not sure I understand why, though.)

Default This may sound stupid but ...

I actually practiced my drain plug technique a couple of times before putting the new oil in to figure out what worked best for me.

It's hard to get good at a maintenance item that only gets done every 20k.

Default I think the thought is it will be done while the car is on a lift

so filling from the bottom plug is more convenient for the tech, and they put more oil than necessary in the tube to deal with slow fingers.

Default It's also designed by Swedes, so their fluid is probably WAY thicker then when we use it
