Drove my brother's M roadster, a 2.3, and a 3.0 before buying my TT last Nov.
Drove the M at sea level (Wisconsin), and thought it was great fun to drive. Drove both the 2.3 and 3.0 in Mile High Denver. The 2.3 is a dog. The 3.0 is much better. However, the altitude favors the TT, that's one of the reasons I bought it. Also far fewer TT's on the road here than Z's. TT interior is a cut above the BMW's as well. I found the performance and driving enjoyment to be very comparable between the 3.0 and the TT. I like the rear wheel drive of the BMW and the styling. Also like the styling of the TT (obviously!), quality of the overall package, and uniqueness. My only complaint with the TT is the weight. I would actually prefer a 300 lb lighter RWD version of the TT (sacrilege I know!).
