Default Head Gasket Leaking Oil

We'll after two days my local Audi Service Department finally found my oil leak. Unfortunately, it's the head gasket. I only have a few hundred miles on the car.

One thing I've seen with this car that may have caused the leak.

1 - Drive the car for 20-30 minutes shut if off.
2 - Leave the car off for 2-3 minutes.
3 - Turn the ignition key back on.
4 - The temperature guage shoots ALL the way over to hot.
5 - If I start the car the temperature slowly returns to normal.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?
The temperature guage never goes past the middle when I'm driving.
