Default HELP...Can a downpipe leak cause boost loss and loud whooshing noise?

An incompetant exhaust shope in Ft. Lauderdale did the install on my 42DD downpipe. The bolts on the downpipe got loose and I was getting exhaust fumes and noise in the cabin. Took it back to the shop for bolt tightning and on my way back home I started getting only 10-12psi max (I normally get 20-22 psi) and loud whooshing noise.

What can be the cause of this? It surely can't be a leaky downpipe can it? where else should I look for the 10 psi of boost I am missing?

Default Hey Russ, remember the 1/2 inch rear height difference problem

I discussed with you last year where the rear driver's side was lower by 1/2 inch in comparison to the rear passenger's ride height? Well, I took out the dead weight and that accounted for 1/4" inch. Guess where the other 1/4" was coming from? A cracked trailing arm bushing!!!! The installer noticed it when I was putting in my KW V3s......

Thanks for the help...

Default Day-um! that's a story with a happy ending... thanks for sharing!!

your whoosh is likely associated with your "charge pipe". It gets removed to access the turbo during downpipe installation. If the boost hose's clamps aren't tightened enough when the charge pipe goes back on, the hose will pop off when you mash the gas. You get: whoosh and lost boost!

Been mashing the gas??

Default Yep, i've been mashing the gas (lol)....will check out the charge pipe.....

in the morning. I just hope that he didn't screw up the section of the pipe that connects from the turbo itself to the charge pipe....
