Help needed regarding misfires
We just finished doing the timing belt replacement on our 2001 Audi TT quattro 225 (6sp manual). Went to fire it up and was running rough. Scanned it with VCDS and it shows a few codes:
Random / Multiple Misfires
Cyl 1 Misfire
Cyl 2 Misfire
Prior to the timing belt maintenance these code were not there. I am pretty sure that the timing is correct (we triple checked it before buttoning everything up) and it doesn't run like the timing is off it runs like I am down on cylinders.
I pulled the coil pack on cyl 1 and there's a lot of oil on it. Did a search, found a post about the issue which recommended blowing out the oil with compressed air and cleaning everything up. Did that then put the coil packs back in the same locations and tried again...engine still ran rough and threw the same codes.
Pulled it all apart, pulled the plugs, cyl1 plug looked wet from fuel, cyl2 plug was damp, cyl3 and 4 dry. That seemed to fit that there was no or little spark. Replaced with brand new plugs. Swapped the coil packs 1 with 4, 2 with 3 so that they were in the reverse order from original. I expected at this point that the misfires would jump to cyl 3 and 4. No such luck. Same codes on the same cyl 1 and 2.
Since I saw that the cylinders were wet after the engine was running I was thinking that they injectors must be fine and that I must be looking at a wiring problem probably in the harness. However that is just a somewhat educated guess.
Any suggestions what else this might be or what else I should try would be greatly appreciated.
