Default HELP!! violent vibration / shimmy >>

on acceleration. more intense at 40 mph+. seemingly coming from the front right. does not do it when braking. does not do it in neutral at speed, so i'm ruling out tires/wheels. any ideas? could it be the axle? cv joint? basically it's only when the drive train is engaged.

scary feeling. what do you guys think it could be. can't really drive too fast... feels like the wheel's gonna fall off. jacked up the car. wheels feel fine. no play. could it be an engine mount?

Default the CV joint in my driveshaft (prop shaft) broke

so it's possible, though rare, for CVs to catastrophically fail. definitely worth a look before it leaves you stranded.

Default i saw your posts about your shattered cv joint >>

any way i can tell if this is the problem before bringing it in to the dealer? i can't take it to the place i want cause it's an hour away. after 40mph the car is very hard/dangerous to drive.

something i can fix myself? how difficult was the operation?

Default I know you already found the problem>>

but in case anyone else is searching and hits this, replacing a CV joint isn't hard, IMO. But I'd suggest enlisting the help of someone who's done it before, for the first one. You can also buy a complete "rebuilt" axle if you don't want to get greasy. You do, however, need a special tool to close the boot clamps when you're finished (not in the prop shaft's case, but on a half-shaft yes). I got a cheap one at JC Whitney some time ago.
