to replace my old IBM. It should be in in a couple weeks.

Now I will be able to run the VAG-COM software in real mode.

Default Does it have a legacy (old COM style) port?

My new DELL doesn't, gotta use the old one to run VAG-COM...

I suppose there's a legacy -> USB converter somewhere...

Default Robert, check with Ross-tech...>

I was talking to them last week, because my Sony Vaio only had USB and Windows ME. Seems like their site says that they have not had luck with USB to serial interfaces (so that you could run the cheaper serial version of VAGCOM).
I ended up buying a Toshiba M35 with XP on it rather than upgrading the Vaio to XP. But I'll have to get the USB interface version of VAG.
Hope you like your Thinkpad. I looked at them but decided the Toshiba with Centrino was a better portable for the money. My son has had 3 thinkpads at work for doing s/w development work, and they're built like tanks. Good machines, but they sure are proud of them...
