Default How far does it stick out?

Your stock exhaust tips that is.

Just came back from the 20K service (still need a return trip, as usual for our dealer) and requested the exhaust tips be more recessed into the car than they are.

They stick out from the valance about .5-.75" or so. I've looked at a few TTs in the lot and they all have the tips far more flush than our car, either flush or recessed 1/4 inch or so.

I don't know how many times I, and my wife, have burned our legs after a trip while unloading stuff from the trunk.

Is it supposed to stick out or be flush? The dealer said the only way to get the tips under the car is to cut the pipe, and they won't do that.

Rest of the 20K story:
5 of 8 issues I wanted fixed were not fixed, or not fixed correctly. Of course this requires yet a second trip.

Good news (?)- The Haldex parts were on the receipt. Have no way of knowing if the haldex service was done, but the parts were on the receipt.

Default Check your tips when the car is cold. I believe they expand outward when they're hot.

Yes, I'm saying this with a straight face. Hopefully the experts will concur.

Default 18 degrees should be cold enough. Even the advisor said it looked abnormal, but also said i am SOL

since it can not be adjusted.

If it is normal, not much I can do about it. Was just curious. Maybe they shortened the exhaust/tips for the 02/03 models. There was a noticable difference (~1 inch maybe) between the showroom TT and ours sitting outside (ice cold)

Default Mine are flush when the drivetrain is cold. But they definitely stick out further after driving.

I never measured it. It does sound like yours is extreme, though.
