Huge decrease in fuel economy. Help.
There is a huggge decrease in mileage. I have no idea when this started, I typically just put whatever money I have in my pocket in the car, I wait for gas to go down before I fill up... Since I've been chipped, I haven't really filled up. Last night after I filled up all the way I noticed I was getting an average of 16mpg, and thats without flooring it for 68 miles...
When you put 10 dollars in here and there, you really don't think about economy... but now that I've seen how bad it has been, I'm shocked.
I KNOW that the car wasn't like this a few weeks ago...
My only mods are the GIAC 91 chip, and an MBC cranked to like 18lbs. (nothing extreme)
Something clearly isn't right.
What things should I check?
MAF.
O2 Sensors.
Running rich (VAG com for that code).
Tire pressures.
More City driving.
Traffic jams.
MBC cranked to 18lbs.
Brakes dragging.
Type of shoes you wear affecting pressure on throttle pedal.
Etc.
My APR program seems to affect milage more when it's cold (1 to 2 mpg) Hard to be sure but it does seem to. Every time I put it in stock mode to check --- I get fed up with the lack of power and switch back to the chipped program in a few miles.
I guess I'll check out vag com and see what it has to say...
I'm guessing its the MAF or something, it doesn't seem to be running really rich, my exhaust tips are somewhat sooty, but its not really out of the ordinary.
Hopefully I can get this figured out. I can settle with 22mpg average, because I do have a heavy foot and I do a lot of city driving... but this 15-16mpg is not going to cut it.
Fun till I get a speeding ticket :-o
...or two :-O
...or three! :-/
HEY guys!!! it's all your fault!!! I'm hooked! Stop talking about this stuff already... and I'll stop modding... and have $$$$$$ again!
AND... no more fun :-(
Thanks for giving me a new "life"!

I noticed consistant declining fuel milage with my TT. It was averaging 20 mpg when it usually was around 24. I hadn't gotten around to checking the sensor outputs or anything else. Then following a week out of town my battery was dead when I returned to the airport garage. I knew it had been on its way out. Well anyway, when I replaced the battery I noticed better throttle response. Thought it was just in my head, but then the milage instantly returned to normal. That's the first time I've experienced anything like that.
