It's not a real big deal. I just thought it was a bit chicken**** under the circumstances.
First off, I did not have a front plate and I acknowledge that any officer has the right to pull me over and write me a ticket for that, if they so desire.
So I'm driving home from work at the speed limit, and I passed a San Diego Police patrol car. I saw the officer's eyes get real wide as he floored it. The way he took off after me, you would have thought that he had just spotted one of America's 10 Most Wanted!
I pulled over and he reads me the riot act about not having a front license plate. I showed him the front plate, which was on the passenger side floor, and explained that the TT is going back to Audi, perhaps as soon as tomorrow. Still, he insists and writes me for no front plate. He says that if I can't get it done before I return the car to Audi, then I'll "just have to go to court and explain the situation to the judge."
So for the last couple of hours, I've been having the front plate installed. As a former San Diego Police Officer myself, I would rarely write for no front plate unless I needed a legal reason to pull over someone who I wanted to talk to.
I especially wouldn't have written someone who was returning the car to the manufacturer within a day or so, unless they were a real jerk, which I was not.
Oh well, whatevah. Now I have a front plate.

I never did agree with that law.
It's a good thing I live in a state that doesn't require them. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate outing. Do you plan on putting a front plate on your new TT? -Doug

No plate unless they make me...
I'll have to watch out for Officer ******** though, as I'm sure he'll be looking for me.

It happens, though they don't usually...
Get pulled over for no front plate, then written a citation a day or so before car is going back to the manufacturer.

I fought traffic, drove to the dealer and...
Waited around for the Assistant Service Manager to return. Then, he told me I needed a front plate bracket. So I fought traffic again, went home, and tore up the place looking for the front plate bracket.
Found the front plate bracket and fought traffic again, returning to the dealer. Waited around for an hour or so, then I fought traffic again to the North Eastern division of SDPD, where I found an officer who signed off the ticket. I told him the story and he didn't say a word, but just gave me that "I can't believe the guy wrote you for that" sort of look.
It only set me back about 2.5 hours. Not like I had anything better to do, right?
