I have a class reunion this weekend in upstate New York. I live in Atlanta. Do I drop $600 for airfare, or "fly" home in the TT? I hate to put those miles on my baby!

When I lived in Spartanburg (Z3 home of Bubba Makes Wheels!) S.C. I would take I-85 to Charlotte, then I-77 north up through the mountains then I-84 to upstate NY (my home too). It is an absolutely beautiful drive but especially so this time of year. I would not even consider flying when I could drive this route in the fall. Take two days if you need and be sure to gas up before you need it because there are plently of long stretches between exits. Watch the troopers as you pass through Maryland ;- ) otherwise it's a fly.

and ... for the price of airfare, you could buy that chip that I've been wanting!

I just spent the last 2 days driving up and around South Lake Tahoe, Bodie, Mono Lake, Highways 50, 88, 89, 395. Beautiful roads, curvy, NOT windy (meaning not TOO curvy), smooth and fast, and didn't c a single CHP. Great way to blow 700 miles!

I just did a 2K+ trip in the TT and was very glad I did not take to the skies. It was an awesome trip.

Most towns in upstate NY with a piece of an interstate use that as their primary source of income, so careful on I-84, Thruway, etc. Where in upstate NY? I went to Cornell, class of '78...

Oh. Of course you should drive it, you're kidding, right?

You'll make the drive one day. Let it wait for now. You don't need the stress of a long distance trip with your spanking brand new ride.

BTW, I once made it from NYC to Tuskegee, AL (140 miles south of Hotlanta) in 15 hours flat, including stops for exercise, food, and gas. I'll never do it again... remember, there's always the homeward leg of the trip to (NOT) look forward to.

Do it for the pleasure, NOT to save money, unless you already have a Valentine-1. If you don't have one, it absolutely nec.. just remember to yank it off of the windshield in Maryland (VA too?).
