Default Just picked up a 2002 TT 225 coupe - rear parcel shelf question

I just picked up a very clean 1st-owner-with-all-dealer-maintenance-records TT225 coupe this past weekend. Picked it up in Los Angeles and drove it home to NorCal.

The car is a blast to drive. It's nothing like the MK4 GTI 1.8t I used to have many years ago despite how much they share. I'm having as much fun in it as an E46 M3 I had for 8yrs and recently sold.

Everything is stock and original, but the one thing it doesn't have is the rear parcel shelf. I really want one for privacy for stuff I might have in the trunk. I'm thinking about picking one up at the pick-n-pull, but what should I expect to pay for it?

Another option I was thinking about was just fabricating my own - either out of plywood or plexiglass covered in automotive/speaker box carpet. But I haven't seen one in person and don't know how its attached.

Can anyone post some pics of the rear parcel shelf and how it's attached to the rear trunk? All the pics I see on the internet show the trunk open and only focus on the trunk itself. Does it clip onto the trunk? Or hang from string points? Is it fixed firmly in place?

TIA!!!

I don't know if this helps.

It pivoted with the movement of the trunk lid. Took it off the day it was mine.

Thanks for the pic! That helps give me an idea of what it looks like and how it attaches. Why'd you take it off?

Do yourself a favor and don't bother with it. That thing creaks more than my bad knees! Mine hasn't been in the car for over 9 years. Get a good dark tint (15%) on the back window and you're good to go. Trust me on this.

I'm keeping mine. You can crack it open and rebond the shell to keep it quiet. I've seen it done and it's on my todo list. The rear hatch trim also seems to make noise. You must have to pull it with the forest of ten men because a firm tug and it didn't budge. I hate pulling panels on this car because you always have repair something once its off.

I just opened mine and loaded it up with flexible silicone adhesive. Dead silent now.

Would you like to sell it? I see one tab is broken, but I have one good tab myself. What I really need are the snap tabs - you can get the metal part but not the plastic. Also thinking of trying to 3D print the plastic part.

hey all. trying to bring an old thread to life with this question.

when I got the tt, the trunk cover was not attached and the snaps are attached to the door trim panel.

so how do I get the snaps to attach to the rear parcel shelf? I see there's a opening on each side of the shelf. but the snap looks like a male buckle socket. I don't see any female buckle socket inside the side the of the parcel shelf. any idea how to attach them? thanks.
