Default Life expectancy of rear brakes and pads

Hi everyone,

I've brought my 180 quattro TT in for 40K maintenance and received a call from the dealership that I needed to replace the rear pads and rotors.

Does this sound reasonable? Also, knowing that the front brakes do more work, should I expect them to wear earlier?

In any case, I am screwed: This is the first out-of-warranty service; the dealership service prices hurt As a cheaper alternative, I had taken my car to the local mechanic for my last oil-change, and the car has been leaking oil since. (cheap means expensive ) Apparently they stripped my oil drain plug.

Thank you,
Ali

Default isn't the warranty 4yrs 50k miles? so how could you be out of warranty?

I still had some pad left after 44.5k of heavy driving (prob 25k in the canyons). Your warranty is supposed to cover the rotors and pads - check with the dealer.

Default And actually I don't think the front pads do most of the work on the quattro...

I think when you hit the brakes, the quattro drive shifts the pull to stop the car to the rear. Mine rear brakes were just replaced. The car had 62K miles and had the original brakes all the way around. Fronts still have 50% material on them. See what I mean!!! But my independent replaced both the brake pads and rotors on the rear for $300.

Default oops (sorry)

Don't pay dealership prices for pads & rotors. Find a master Audi Mech (there has to be some in your area) and get some upgraded or aftermarket rotors and pads.

Approx $500'sh inc install would be my guess

Default changing the rear rotors is actually quite easy

same for the pads... TTigg - $500? sounds high to me... I must be out of touch...

Default Still have all my original pads at 42K

Recent check shows about 20K more wear left.
